New Habitat Home in Plainfield will Reunite Family
New Jersey Connect, Inc. is proud to collaborate with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plainfield & Middlesex County to build a single family, owner occupied, barrier-free, affordable home in Plainfield, NJ. In January 2016, Nikeisa Johnson and her four children were selected as the newest partner family for this future Habitat home.
Nikeisa’s 3-year-old son, born 3 months premature, has a condition that requires 24-hour medical attention and has prevented him from living at home since birth. Nikeisa must demonstrate to the medical facility that her home can accommodate his medical needs before he can be brought home.
Habitat Barrier Free
The new home will be built on East 5th Street, next to another Habitat home built in 2010. To meet the medical needs of her son, her home will be designed as barrier-free and accessible, in conjunction with the Johnsons and their hospital social worker.
In addition to funding from New Jersey Connect, the Rutgers University Habitat Campus Chapter has committed to this project as a Half House Sponsor to provide $50,000.
A lifetime resident of Plainfield, Johnson is excited to keep her family in Plainfield, to soon have a home of their own, and most of all, to bring her son home for the first time in his life.
